INVESTIGATION OF TROPHIC STATUS AND PHYTOPLANKTON OF ÇAMBAŞI POND (KABADÜZ, ORDU)
ABSTRACT
Phytoplankton of Çambaşı Pond, its seasonal variation, physical and chemical factors that effect this variation were researched between April 2009 and May 2010. A total of 99 taxa belonging to Bacillariophyta, Chlorophyta, Cyanobacteria, Euglenozoa, Dinoflagellata, Heterokontophyta, Streptophyta ve Ochrophyta were identified.
Physical factors such as light and temperature had revealed limiting effect on the growing of the algal species in phytoplankton. The amount of chlorophyll-a was mostly in positive relation with density of phytoplankton.
While Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyta members were dominant in terms of species number, Dinoflagellata and Ochrophyta were dominant in terms of species abundance in the study area. Peridinium willei Huitfeldt-Kaas from Dinoflagellata showed an increase in summer and autumn in 2009. Synedra nana F.Meister from Ochrophyta was found to be bloomed in August and September in 2009.
No significant change was observed in species diversity of phytoplankton in various depths of the sampling stations. While mainly Chlorophyta and Bacillariophyta members were dominant in surface, Ochrophyta and Dinophyta members were dominant in 5 m depth.
Both the results of Cluster and Shannon-Weaver analysis exposed a similarity between summer and autumn months. In the surface, the highest value for species diversity index occurred with 1.526 in May 2009 in St.2.
In Çambaşı Pond, TSI(SD), TSI(Kl-a) and TSI(TP) values were not showed similarity results. In the study period TSI(m) value was estimated as 52.84. According to the rate of composed Phytoplankton, the state of the dominant genus and clorophyll-a index showing the tropic best, the pond is oligo-mezotrophic.
