Energy and exergy analysis have been applied to an existing power plant using the real operating parametres. The total input and output energy and exergy (thermomechanical+chemical exergies) and the exergy losses have been determined for each unit in the plant by applying the energy and exergy analysis. The exergy losses considered here are due to flow, combustion, heat transfer and the steck gases. The energy and exergy losses were compared with each other for each unit.
It was concluded that tbe greatest energy loss occures at the condencer based on the energy analysis and that tbe greatest exergy loss occures at tbe boiler based on the exergy analysis. According to these results, the results from exergy analysis are more occurate and it is recommended that the necessary improvements must be made at the boiler in order to increase the efficiency of tbe power plant.
