when we compared the distal latance results of ENMG in control group in means of difference between the sciatic nerve cut legs exposed to saline ( mean 2,28 0,55) and normally legs ( mean 1,30 0,25) with Paired t test. Spontaneous healing and signal transduction functions were not reached to the normal limits. According to the ENMG distal latance results in nifedipine treated group, the difference between sciatic nerve cut legs ( mean 1,50 0,27) and normally legs ( mean 1,16 0,16) are conserved with Paired t test ( p < 0,001 ), so we detected that there was also no complete healing in nifedipine group. However, when we compared distal latance results of the saline applied and nifedipine applied sciatic nerve cut legs in both nifedipine (mean 1,50 0,27) and control group (mean 2,28 0,55) with Student t test; better healing in nifedipine group than control group according to the p < 0,001 value was detected.
In immunocytochemical examination of the control group which drug wasnt used after the cutting of sciatic nerve , there were too many disorganized axons in cutting region which couldnt be reached to the aim . In the nifedipine group , axons were less than control group but there were organized axons which were reached to the aim . Neurinoma formation in sciatic nerve was seen in six mice in control group but not in nifedipine group.
In conclusion , we determined the positive effect of nifedipin on the peripheral nerve regeneration. Many experimental and clinical comparative studies are needed to prove the positive effect of this drug in the peripheral nerve regeneration.
