3. SUMMARY
It is still one of the most important problem that to carry on the motor and sensory functions of the nerve after the peripheral nerve section. So, some pharmacological agents have been used experimentally to effect positively the results of the peripheral nerve surgery. However , with the well understanding of the pathophysiology of the nerve regeneration, it is accepted that the calcium ion is a excytotoxic ion. After this; the popularity of this drugs is increased in the era of neuron regeneration.
In our study, we examined the effect of nifedipine that was a calcium channel blocker on the nerve regeneration that we made sciatic nerve sections in experiment animals and searched the effect of drug by using functional , electrophysiologic and immunohistochemical studies. There were two groups and twelve swis albino type male experiment mice in each group. Left sciatic nerve surgery was done with epineural interfascicular method on microscopically. In the test group the spongostan that inserted to the % 0,006 concentrated per microliter and 100 microliter diluated nifedipine solution, was wrapped around the nerve. In the control group spongostan that inserted to the 100 microliter phosphate buffered saline (PBS) solution was wrapped around the nerve, then; nifedipine was given to experiment animals in drug group, PBS was given to experiment animals in control group, for once locally.
With the results of the walking tests made after three weeks from surgery procedure, sciatic function indexes are calculated according to the formula. The results of SFI values of the control group is compared with the SFI values (mean -69,43 11,99) of the nifedipine group ( mean -41,54 8,77) using with Student t test and the level as p < 0,001 is established for acceptense the fawor of the nifedipine group. There is a statistically significiance ( p < 0,001) 4
