In this work, the wear resistance characteristics of three different Al-Si cast alloys with %5, %8 and %11 Si contents were exemined after spheroidising heat treatment and coating these alloys using Plasma Electrolytic Oxidation (PEO) method. SiC water proof paper and stainless steel were used as counterfaces in wear tests.
The wear resistances were increased at least 30 times when the materials were coated by PEO method. This increase is 128.9 times for %5 Si containing alloy, 72 times for %8 Si and 30 times for %11 Si containing alloy. It is observed that the wear resistance of PEO coatings is negatively affected by the augmentation of the Si content and increasing the Si content of the alloys causes a increase in the wear resistance of uncoated materials.
