Conclusion: In our study, the rate of skin cancer development was 4% (2 cases) in the patients who started treatment with PUVA for more than five years ago. On the other hand, both skin malignancies were associated with low morbidity and the tumors were identified early during follow-up. The number of PUVA treatment sessions as well as total UVA dose were found to be very higher in 2 patients developing secondary skin cancer, compared to the ones who did not develop skin cancer. Although our avarage follow-up time was 10 years, no adverse effect of ultraviolet damage on the length of life span was observed. It could be stated that development of skin cancer is not a common problem especially in patients who do not require long-term PUVA treatment. Moreover, it is not associated with any severe complications in patients who are regularly been followed up. The patients with PUVA lentigines have significantly increased risk for development of secondary skin malignancies. Therefore, we recommend monitoring patients with PUVA lentigines at shorter intervals.
