ABSTRACT
In this study, field trips are made to places in Turkey, where taxa of the genus Origanum grow naturally, and samples are collected with flowers and fruit, and their photos have been taken. Collected 44 samples are made into herbarium material and housed in Herbarium of Inonu University Faculty of Pharmacy. Some of the samples collected from nature are flipped to make anatomic studies. Leaf surfaces of taxa were drawn by stereomicroscope in detail also, both the general view and details were taken by a digital camera and transferred to computer. Surface morphology was studied extensively by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and photographed. Facile cross-sections were taken from leaves, stomata structure was examined, and number of stoma per mm2 and stomata index for upper and lower surfaces were separately calculated. Suitable preparates were chosen, their shapes were drawn with the help of drawing tube under trinocular microscope and their photos were taken and transferred to computer.
With epidermal studies on taxa of the genus Origanum, characteristics that will be used to distinguish genus and species, characteristics that support and explain existing taxonomic classification were put forward. With the evaluation of obtained data, a new genus identification key was arranged.
