ABSTRACT
A STUDY ON HEAVY METAL CONTENTS IN THE SOILS OF APPLIED RESEARCH CENTRE FOR AGRICULTURE OF ULUDAG UNIVERSITY
This study was performed to determine the heavy metal concentrations and fertility status of the soils of Applied Research Centre for Agruculture of Uludag University, for the purpose of evaluation of current fertility status of the soils and bringing data base out for studies that will be conducted in future.
The soil samples were collected at the depth of 0-30 cm from the research area. Twenty five of 30 soil samples were taken from field crops grown soils and 5 of 30 soil samples were taken from horticultural crops grown soils.
According to results obtained from the research, total concentrations of Cu, Co, Cd, Zn and Pb did not accumulate at the excessive levels in soils, However, Ni in all, Fe in 30%, Mn in 10% and Cr in 86% of the soil samples were found to be excess levels. DTPA extractable Mn and Cu concentrations were found to be above sufficiency values and extractable Fe in 7% and extractable Zn in 86 % of the soil samples were below sufficiency ranges.
Examined soils of the Applied Research Centre for Agriculture were claytextured, medium alkaline, non-saline, in low levels of organic matter, contained lime few level, available P content in medium level, extractable K and Mg in sufficient concentrations.
